Balancing Ambition and Realism: Reflections on Building a Business

On a snowy evening in December 2024, standing outside my teaching kitchen watching Christmas lights twinkle, I paused to capture a moment that encapsulated nearly a decade of dreaming, building, and creating. What began as a vision in 2015 has blossomed into a vibrant reality - a teaching kitchen where community and culinary creativity intersect.

The journey spans almost ten years: from the initial spark of inspiration, through the profound moment when construction began (a pinch-me moment that made the dream tangible), through eighteen months of careful preparation and building, to now two and a half years of bringing people together in this thoughtfully crafted space. Tonight, as I walked out after teaching a pretzel and beer cheese soup class, I felt the weight and wonder of what I've accomplished.

But perhaps what's most meaningful isn't just the physical space I've created, but what happens within its walls. I've built more than a kitchen - I've created a place for connection, where countless people have gathered, learned, laughed, and found community. Each class, each gathering, each shared moment validates that initial dream and adds to the magical quality of what I've built from nothing.

This reflection captures a moment of profound gratitude and achievement - a testament to the power of holding onto a dream and doing the patient, persistent work of bringing it into being, one step at a time.
